Cathedral chapter

Suzanne Cornell, Senior Warden

suzannecornell2006 [@] gmail.com

Suzanne Cornell has been a member of All Saints since birth! Her grandparents lived in the basement of the church, serving as custodians during the Depression after moving here from Oneida with their 4 children in the early 30s. Suzanne says: “My dad, Lee, often talked about shoveling coal in the furnace and ringing the church bells. I know that my only idea of church is here at the Cathedral, nothing else compares.”

Both of her parents were active in the congregation; (serving, altar guild, lector, Book Sale, hospitality, etc.) so she learned at an early age that belonging here meant giving back. Her passion is the Hunger Book Sale, but she has also served on Chapter many times over the years.

From Sue: “Even though I didn’t choose to be here at All Saints’, it truly is my sanctuary. I have met so many people I call friends and my work here keeps me grounded. It was fate that got me here but is faith that keeps me coming back. I am truly invested in ‘my church’ and look forward to planning the next phase of our Cathedral life while being cognizant of our shared history.”

Howard Hutchinson, Junior Warden

Howard and his wife Linda moved to Milwaukee in 2019 from northern Wisconsin where they had lived for 13 years. They chose Milwaukee as their new home because of its charm, culture, and closeness to family. A few months after arriving, we found a church home at All Saints’ Cathedral.

Howard is semi-retired and has spent his business career working in financial services. Over the decades he has also served as a member, officer, and president of several volunteer boards.

Howard says: “I look forward to working with the Chapter and the people of All Saints to grow in defining our mission to each other and to our greater community.  In addition, I am fully committed to keeping any and all Chapter and Cathedral meetings to under two hours.”

Steve Waring

Steve Waring has been singing in church choirs since he was nine years old. He is a third-generation Episcopalian (on his father’s side), and one of his two brothers, an uncle, and his father were all Episcopal priests. Steve wears many hats for The Milwaukee Times Weekly Newspaper: reporter, photographer, advertising account executive, bookkeeper, delivery driver, etc. In his spare time, he enjoys goofing off and racing bicycles.

Fred Kaems

Fred has been a member of All Saints’ Cathedral for over 50 years. His involvement started as an acolyte, before working as sexton and then part-time as church secretary, producing bulletins. From there he got involved with the Buildings and Grounds Committee which continues to be one of his great interests here at ASC.

Fred has served multiple terms as a Chapter member and Warden, worked in the garden for about 30 years, and served many years on the Cathedral Corporation. He is on the Finance Committee and also serves as treasurer of the Columbarium Board.  During this time, he has served several terms as a Chapter member and Warden, and many years on the Cathedral Corporation, Finance, Building and Grounds and Garden Committees.

By trade Fred is an interior designer, now retired. He and his wife Mary met at the Cathedral (though they can’t remember that!), were married here, and raised their sons here.

Fred says: “The Cathedral congregation has always been a great group of diverse and caring people and I would hope that we ensure that it continues to be that long into the future. My time volunteering has introduced me to many people I count as friends and just reinforces what a great community there is for anyone who wants to plug in.”

Jon Prill

Jon says: “My name is Jon Prill and I have been a member of ASC for about 8 years. Many of you know my dog Bernie as well. I also live on the east side, work at Aperitivo in the historic Pritzlaff building, and recently enrolled at UWM to (finally) finish my BA in Political Science. I served on Chapter a few years ago and was a Convention Delegate in the past. I look forward to representing ASC again.”

Chris McKellar

mckell6 [@] gmail.com

Hello! If we have not yet met, I’m Chris McKellar. My husband Brett and I have been attending All Saints’ for a year now and were married at the cathedral on January 27th, 2024. We both come from different faith traditions and have found the bridge with those traditions at the cathedral. Growing up my family instilled in me and all my siblings that church is not being in the pew alone, but ministry and faith through action. That is why I am so pleased to be a member of the Chapter at All Saints’.

I work in horticultural and landscape supply sales management and have my BS in Horticultural Science from Michigan State University. I have lived in the Milwaukee area for 10 years. In college, I was treasurer of the Student Horticulture Club for 2 years and served as donations chair for our annual plant sale. That three-day sale generated over $40,000 to fund our club and yearly activities. Post graduation I served a three-year term on the Generation Next Committee for AmericanHort which is the nation’s largest landscape and horticultural trade organization. I currently serve on the advisory board for the Landscape Horticulture program at MATC. Through all these roles I have learned and continue to develop the skills of effective communication, leading with empathy, and listening. God gave us one mouth and two ears and I believe in using them proportionately.

At All Saints’ I helped with the garden group as schedules have allowed and participate in The Gathering.

Brett and I have felt very welcome and included in the community at All Saints’ and I look forward to my further involvement in and planning for the future of our cathedral.

Mary Hinderliter

mschmod [@] gmail.com

I joined All Saints’ Cathedral in 2002, while I was pregnant with my son, Ray. My faith background is Roman Catholic; I attended a Catholic grade school and high school. My late husband (Steve Brown) was born and raised in England and attended Church of England schools. We were looking for a place for Ray to be baptized and raised in faith. The Anglican traditions, beauty of the Cathedral building, lovely music, and the friendliness of the parishioners made us feel very welcomed. Over the years, I have come to deeply appreciate the blend of the traditional mass setting along with the open-minded, accepting, and genuinely caring members of the clergy and congregation.

As Ray grew older, I had more time to participate in the life of the church; first joining choir, attending the Diocesan Convention as a delegate, and serving a one-year term on Chapter to fill a vacant seat.

In 2022, I retired after a nearly 30-year career in Corporate Communications for a large global insurance company to focus on community volunteering and other forms of service. That life change, and the fact that my husband, Hal, and I are now empty nesters, has given me additional flexibility to become even more involved at ASC. Last year, I was an active member of the ASC 150th Anniversary Celebration Committee and the Hospitality Committee. I also volunteered for the annual Hunger Book Sale and helped with sandwich making for the Guest House. I am looking forward to becoming more active on the Fundraising Committee in 2024.

My participation as a member of the All Saints’ Cathedral Choir continues to be a highlight of my life at ASC. I feel honored to be a part of making beautiful music through anthems and participating in moving services, such as during Holy Week.

Serving on Chapter and as a Delegate for the 2024 Diocesan Conventions allows me to become even more involved at All Saints’ and help support the future of our beloved Cathedral.

Marjorie Larson, Clerk & Treasurer

Marjorie has been a member of All Saints’ since 1980 and regularly attends the 10 am service. She originally moved to Milwaukee in June of 1979 for a new job, with her son Larry. She was a member of Christ Church in La Crosse and started looking for a new home in Milwaukee; she attended a number of the Episcopal parishes, but it wasn’t until attending services at All Saints’ that Marjorie felt truly at home.

Marjorie is now serving the first year of her second term and acting as the meeting Secretary. She also serves as Treasurer and is responsible for making sure that our bills are approved for payment and that our accountant receives accurate financial information. As Treasurer, she serves on the Finance Committee, which is responsible for creating the Annual budget and meets regularly to be sure the Cathedral finances are on track.

Marge says: “I am excited about the possibilities the future may hold for our parish.”

She has a son and 4 stepchildren whom I consider my family, along with 7 amazing grandchildren. In her spare time, she loves to read, travel a little, and spend time with family and friends.
